From Dreamer to Designer: How Tyler Westbroek Built Craft Design Co.

Tyler Westbroek has  always been drawn to the outdoors. Growing up in Utah, Tyler was surrounded by breathtaking mountains, snowboarding in the winter, and hiking through natural beauty in the summers. It was those moments in the outdoors that crafted his path.

He got his start in product design at the young age of 23, teaching himself to sew and 3D print prototypes for gear that empowered him to take his outdoor adventures to the next level . That quickly evolved into Craft Design Co. , Now, he’s experimenting with AI to push his creativity even further, designing outdoor gear that blends innovation with adventure.

And most recently, he took home the top prize in Relay’s $25K Cash Flow Glow-Up giveaway.

Utah

Meet Craft Design Co.

Craft Design Co. is a product and brand design consultancy that, in Tyler's words, "creates beautiful and elegant products that tell a story with brand language and design language. We want to help products that struggle to elevate their brand, tell their story, and grow their business."

Tyler takes a hands-on approach to his craft, which has become a cornerstone to how Craft Design Co. operates and differentiates him from the competition. Over the last six years, his work style has caught the eye of major outdoor brands, resulting in major partnerships like Gravitas, Shibumi Shade, and Gathr Outdoors.

Innovating to Solve Real Problems

Despite their growth over the last six years, starting Craft Design Co. was no small feat. Tyler had dreamed of launching his own business for years, and making it a reality was a significant accomplishment.

Tyler is especially proud of his innovative approach to design. By leveraging tools like 3D printing, sewing, and even AI platforms like MidJourney and Vizcom, he’s able to accelerate the design process and explore creative new ideas. This willingness to embrace technology and push boundaries is a testament to Tyler’s forward-thinking mindset.

Winning the $25K Cash Flow Glow-Up

When Tyler found out he’d won Relay’s $25K Cash Flow Glow-Up giveaway, he was speechless—then the excitement kicked in. He knew exactly how this cash would transform his business.

“Winning $25,000 is huge,” said Tyler. “It allows me to invest in better tools for 3D printing, upgrade my design resources, and experiment with new techniques to create even higher-quality products. Tools aren’t cheap, especially in product design, and this prize money will allow me to take my business to the next level.”

Beyond upgrading his equipment, Tyler plans to use the prize money to amplify his marketing efforts and reach new clients. From building his social media presence to expanding his network, this cash boost will let Tyler grow his business faster than he ever imagined. He’s excited to reach out and engage product engineers—whether through hiring or freelancers—to collaborate on refining the functional aspects of his designs. This ensures that the products are not only aesthetically pleasing but also built for high performance.

Why Tyler Chose Relay

When it came to choosing a banking platform for Craft Design Co., Tyler knew he wanted something different from the traditional banks.

“I looked into several banking options, but Relay stood out for its simplicity and focus on supporting small business owners like me. Their platform isn’t just about banking—it’s built to empower entrepreneurs to grow and manage their businesses seamlessly.”

Relay’s features, like categorized accounts and integrations with tools like QuickBooks, have been instrumental in helping Tyler manage his cash flow more effectively. “To be honest, money management hasn’t always been my strongest point,” Tyler admitted. “Having the ability to see my cash flow clearly has been a game-changer.”

What’s Next for Craft Design Co.?

With $25,000 in hand and a clear vision for the future, Tyler is ready to take Craft Design Co. to new heights. His ultimate goal? To grow the business to the point where he can launch his own product line for outdoor goods—a dream that’s closer than ever thanks to his cash flow glow-up.
