Relay bills your subscription monthly from a Relay checking account you choose at upgrade, with a 48-hour grace period if that account has insufficient funds.
What you need before you start
An active Relay Subscription plan (Starter Plan, Grow Plan, or Scale Plan)
A designated Relay checking account with enough balance to cover the monthly subscription bill
Administrator access on your Relay Account if you need to change the billing account (business accounts). Accountants and bookkeepers make this change in the Relay Partner Portal instead
Desktop browser access. Billing settings are managed from desktop, not the Relay mobile app
When does Relay bill your monthly subscription?
Relay bills your subscription on the same calendar day each month, matching the day your paid plan first activated.
For a business account, that anchor date is the day your 14-day trial converts to a paid plan, or the day you upgrade directly to a paid plan without a trial. Every subsequent bill lands on that same day of the month.
For an accountant or bookkeeper covering subscription charges on behalf of clients, the billing day is set by the first client you switch to a paid plan. All subsequent clients bill on that same day each month.
What happens if your billing account has insufficient funds?
If your designated Relay checking account cannot cover the monthly bill, or the account has been closed, Relay applies a 48-hour grace period before you lose access to your subscription plan.
Relay will continue attempting to bill you until either the charge succeeds or you cancel your subscription. To stop billing entirely, cancel your plan in Settings. Full steps are in Managing or Cancelling Your Relay Plan.
How do you find your billing date and next billing date?
Your billing date, next billing date, and any active discounts live in the Billing tab of Settings on desktop.
Sign in to your Relay Account on desktop.
Open the Settings tab.
Click Billing and Plans.
Click the Billing tab to view your billing date, next billing date, and any active discounts.
How do you find your Relay Subscription invoices?
Your invoices are listed under Billing History in the Billing and Plans section of Settings.
Sign in to your Relay Account on desktop.
Open the Settings tab.
Click Billing and Plans.
Scroll down to Billing History to see every Relay Subscription invoice for the account.
If you are an accountant or bookkeeper, your subscription invoices live in your Partner Portal account settings, not inside any individual client's account.
How do you update your subscription payment method?
You update your payment method by selecting a different Relay checking account under Payment method in the Billing and Plans section of Settings.
Sign in to your Relay Account on desktop.
Open the Settings tab.
Click Billing and Plans.
Under Payment method, click the pencil icon next to your currently selected billing account.
Select a different Relay checking account from the list.
Click Save.
Only Administrators on a business account can change the checking account linked to a subscription. Accountants and bookkeepers make this change in Partner Portal account settings rather than in a client's Relay Account.
Common issues
The Billing tab is not showing. Billing settings are desktop-only. Sign in on desktop at app.relayfi.com rather than in the Relay mobile app.
You cannot change the billing account. You need Administrator permissions on the business account. Ask an existing Administrator to make the change, or ask them to grant you Administrator access.
Your subscription is about to lapse for insufficient funds. Transfer money into the designated checking account before the 48-hour grace period expires, or update the payment method to a different Relay checking account with a sufficient balance.
An accountant covering a client cannot find invoices in the client account. Partner-paid invoices live in Partner Portal account settings, not inside the individual client's Relay Account.
Your billing day shifted after an upgrade. Upgrading a plan can reset the monthly billing anchor to the upgrade date. Check the Billing tab in Settings for the current next billing date.
