Inviting a team member or advisor to your Relay Account takes about two minutes per invite and works the same from the web app or the mobile app.
What you need before you start
Administrator or Manager permissions on the Relay Account you're inviting into
The invitee's work email address
The permission level you want to assign (see Team member permissions for the full list)
The specific checking or savings accounts you want them to access, if you're assigning a restricted permission level
The invitee's personal address if the permission level allows transaction actions such as sending payments or approving bills
What's the difference between a team member and an advisor?
Team members are people who work inside your business, such as employees, business partners, or a virtual assistant. Advisors are external professionals who support your business, most commonly an accountant or bookkeeper. Both are invited by email and can be assigned custom permission levels, but only advisors are eligible for the Super Administrator role.
If the permission level you assign allows transaction actions, the invitee will be asked to provide a personal address as part of accepting the invite.
How do I invite a team member or advisor on the web?
Sign in to Relay on desktop, open the Team section, and send the invite by email.
Sign in to your Relay Account at app.relayfi.com.
Click Team in the left navigation.
Click Invite team member or Add, then choose whether you're inviting a team member or an advisor.
Enter the invitee's work email address.
If they'll receive a physical Relay Visa® Debit Card, toggle on Request user address so Relay can collect their shipping address at signup.
If you want to mirror an existing team member's setup, use Copy permissions from an existing user as a starting point. You can still adjust before sending.
Choose the permission level.
If the permission level is restricted to specific accounts, select which checking or savings accounts the invitee can access.
Click Invite.
The invitee receives an email with a link that stays valid for four weeks. Once they accept and create their login credentials, their status changes from pending to active.
How do I invite a team member or advisor on the mobile app?
Send invites from the Team screen inside Settings.
Sign in to the Relay app on iOS or Android.
Tap the Settings tab.
Tap Team.
Tap the + button in the top right.
Choose Team member or Advisor.
Enter the invitee's work email and select a permission level.
If the permission level is restricted, select which checking or savings accounts they can access.
Tap Invite.
The mobile flow sends the same email invitation as the web flow. The invitee's status stays pending until they accept and complete login setup.
How do I resend or cancel an invite?
Both actions live next to the pending user's name on the Team page.
On the web:
Open the Team section.
Find the pending invite in the list.
Click Resend to send a new invitation link, or click the three vertical dots and select Cancel to withdraw the invite.
On the mobile app:
Open Settings, then tap Team.
Tap Resend or Cancel beneath the invitee's name.
Cancelling invalidates the invitation link and removes the pending user from your Team list. You can re-invite the same email address any time.
Who can send invites?
Three roles can send invites, with different limits on which permission levels each role can assign.
Administrators can invite team members and advisors at any permission level.
Managers can invite team members only, and only at the Cardholder, Deposit-only, or Read-only levels.
Advisors with administrative permissions can invite team members and other advisors.
Super Administrator is an advisor-only permission level with additional access to company finances and integrations. Only Administrators can grant it.
How long is an invitation link valid?
Invitation links stay valid for four weeks from the moment you send them. If a link expires before the invitee accepts, go to the Team page and click Resend to issue a new one; the old link is automatically invalidated.
Common issues
The invitee didn't get the email. Double-check the email address on the pending invite, ask the invitee to look in their spam and junk folders, and click Resend from the Team page.
The invite link expired. Links expire after four weeks. Resend the invite to generate a fresh link.
The permission level I need isn't available. You may be signed in as a Manager, which caps you at Cardholder, Deposit-only, and Read-only. Ask an Administrator on the account to send the invite or upgrade your role.
The invitee is stuck on "pending" after accepting. They still need to create login credentials and complete the sign-in flow. Ask them to reopen the invitation email and finish setup.
You want to change permissions after the invite is sent. Cancel the pending invite and re-invite with the new permission level. Once the user is active, you can adjust permissions directly from the Team page (see Editing permission levels).
