How to Edit Permission Levels in Relay

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Change a team member's or advisor's role, account access, or card access in your Relay account from web or mobile in about a minute.

What you need before you start

  • Administrator or Super Administrator access on the Relay account

  • The team member or advisor already invited and active on the account

  • A second administrator still on the account if you're changing an existing admin's role

How do I edit permissions from the web?

Sign in on desktop, open the Team tab, and update the person's role and account access from their profile.

  1. Sign in to your Relay account at app.relayfi.com.

  2. Open the Team tab from the left sidebar.

  3. Find the team member or advisor whose permissions you want to change.

  4. Click Edit next to their name.

  5. Select the new permission level.

  6. Choose which checking and savings accounts they can access, if the new role allows account-level restrictions.

  7. Click Update permissions to save your changes.

Changes take effect immediately once you save.

How do I edit permissions from the mobile app?

Open the Relay mobile app, go to Settings, and adjust the role, account access, and card access from the Team menu.

  1. Open the Relay mobile app and tap Settings.

  2. Tap Team.

  3. Tap the team member or advisor whose permissions you want to change.

  4. Tap User information to change their role.

  5. Select the new role and tap Save.

  6. Tap Account Access to change which checking or savings accounts they can see.

  7. Tap Individual Card Access to review or restrict which cards they can use.

Who can edit permissions?

Only Administrators and Super Administrators can change permission levels on a Relay account. Team members with other roles will not see the Edit option.

What happens if I'm the only administrator on the account?

An administrator cannot be removed or downgraded if they are the only one with that role on the account. Add a second administrator first, then change the original admin's permissions.

Common issues

  • The Edit button is missing. You don't have Administrator or Super Administrator access. Ask an admin on the account to make the change or to upgrade your role first.

  • The role I want isn't in the list. Some roles apply only to team members and some only to advisors. Check the linked permission articles below for the full list of options by user type.

  • Account access options are greyed out. The permission level you selected already includes access to all accounts. Choose a role that supports account-level restrictions if you want to limit access.

  • Changes didn't save. Refresh the page or sign out and back in. If the issue persists, contact our Customer Experience team.
