How to Cancel an ACH Payment on Relay

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

You can cancel an outgoing ACH payment from your Relay account any time before it settles, usually 30 seconds from the Home page.

What you need before you start

  • You're signed in to your Relay account on the web or in the Relay mobile app

  • The ACH payment is still outgoing and has not yet settled

  • You have the transaction details ready if you need to contact Customer Experience for a settled payment

How do I cancel an ACH payment on the web?

Sign in to Relay, open the payment from your Home page, and click Cancel Payment at the bottom of the transaction details panel.

  1. Sign in to your Relay account at app.relayfi.com.

  2. On the Home page, find the outgoing ACH payment in your transactions list.

  3. Click the payment to open the transaction details panel on the right.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the panel.

  5. Click Cancel Payment. The funds return to your Relay balance.

How do I cancel an ACH payment in the Relay mobile app?

Open the Relay mobile app, tap the ACH payment from your Home screen, and tap Cancel Payment at the bottom of the transaction details window.

  1. Open the Relay mobile app and sign in.

  2. On the Home screen, tap the outgoing ACH payment you want to cancel.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the transaction details window.

  4. Tap Cancel Payment. The funds return to your Relay balance.

What happens if the ACH payment has already settled?

You can't cancel a settled ACH payment from your Relay dashboard. If the payment went to the wrong recipient, contact the Customer Experience team within 5 days of settlement to request an ACH recall.

An ACH recall request:

  • Must be submitted within 5 days of settlement

  • Requires the transaction ID, amount, and date the payment was initiated

  • Is not guaranteed to recover the funds, since the receiving bank must cooperate with the recall

Can I dispute an outgoing ACH payment?

No. Outgoing ACH payments you initiated cannot be disputed. If you sent an ACH to the wrong recipient or the wrong amount, an ACH recall through the Customer Experience team is the only path.

If someone else pulled money out of your Relay account without authorization (an incoming ACH debit), that is disputable through a separate process.

What other Relay payments can I cancel from the dashboard?

Only outgoing ACH and check payments can be cancelled directly from your Relay dashboard. Every other payment type requires a Customer Experience request.

  • ACH payments: cancel from the Home page using the steps above

  • Check payments: cancel from the Home page using the same pattern (see the check article linked below)

  • Domestic and international wires: contact Customer Experience with the transaction ID, amount, and date the payment was initiated

  • Check deposits: contact Customer Experience with the deposit details

  • Transfers to an external bank account: contact Customer Experience with the transaction details

  • Card transactions: contact the merchant directly. Relay cannot cancel a card transaction once it has been authorized.

Common issues

  • Cancel Payment button is greyed out or missing: the payment has already settled. Contact Customer Experience within 5 days to request an ACH recall.

  • Funds have not returned to my balance: cancelled ACH funds should show up in your available balance right away. If the balance hasn't updated, refresh the page or sign out and back in.

  • I sent the ACH to the wrong recipient: if the payment is still outgoing, cancel it from your Home page. If it has settled, request an ACH recall through Customer Experience within 5 days.

  • The payment shows as pending but I can't find it in my list: filter your transactions view by ACH and outgoing to isolate pending ACH payments.
