How to Send an ACH From Your Relay Account

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

You can send an ACH from any Relay checking account in about a minute once your payee is set up, choosing same-day or next-day delivery.

Before you start

  • A Relay checking account. ACH send is not available from a Relay savings account; move money into checking first if the source funds live in savings.

  • The payee added to your account, with their routing number and account number.

  • Enough available balance in the source checking account to cover the payment.

  • A mobile number on file for two-factor authentication, in case you are prompted for an SMS verification code.

Sign in to Relay, open the Payments tab, and follow the steps below. The flow is available on web and in the Relay mobile app.

From the web

  1. Sign in to your Relay account.

  2. Select the Payments tab.

  3. Click Send an ACH.

  4. Choose Same-day or Next-day ACH.

  5. Select an existing payee, or click Add new payee.

  6. Choose the checking account you want to pay from.

  7. Enter the payment amount.

  10. Select a scheduled date.

Relay customers can also navigate to their recent payment activity from the Payments dashboard and select “New Payment” from a previously sent transaction. This will start a new payment to the same payee associated with that transaction.

  1. Sign in to the Relay mobile app.

  2. Select the Payments tab.

  3. Press Send Payment.

  4. Select the recipient from your payee list.

  5. Enter the payment amount.

  6. Select the source checking account.

  7. Choose Same-day or Next-day ACH.

  8. Add a memo (optional).

  9. Press Pay.

What is the difference between same-day and next-day ACH?

Same-day ACH delivers on the same business day it is sent, if you submit it before the same-day cutoff shown in the payment flow. Next-day ACH delivers within 1 to 2 business days.

What are the cutoff times and limits for sending an ACH?

The cutoff for next-day ACH is 10:30 PM EST. Payments submitted after that time process on the next business day. The same-day ACH cutoff is earlier and is displayed inside the payment flow before you submit. Every Relay account has daily and monthly ACH send limits, and you can view your current limits in your account settings. Fees for ACH send are shown in the payment confirmation screen and in the details of your subscription plan.

Can I send an ACH from a Relay savings account?

No. ACH send is only available from a Relay checking account. To move money out of a Relay savings account, first create an internal transfer from savings to checking, then send the ACH from the checking account.

How do I attach a bill to an ACH payment?

You can upload a bill directly from the ACH payment window. Relay auto-extracts the vendor name, invoice number, line items, amount, and dates from the uploaded file. You can add accounting categorization at the same time if you want. The bill then appears in the Bills section for tracking and reconciliation.

Why am I being asked for an SMS code when I send a payment?

Relay may prompt you to verify a payment with a one-time SMS code sent to the mobile number on your account. This is an added security check that runs on select payments to confirm that you authorized the transaction. Enter the code in the payment flow to complete the send.

Common issues

  • Payment blocked by insufficient balance: check the source checking account's available balance, then move money in or reduce the payment amount.

  • ACH send greyed out from savings: switch the source account to a Relay checking account, or create an internal transfer from savings to checking first.

  • Cutoff missed: payments submitted after 10:30 PM EST for next-day ACH process on the next business day; use same-day ACH before its earlier cutoff if you need faster delivery.

  • SMS code not received: confirm the mobile number on file is current, and check that carrier messages are not being filtered or blocked.

  • Payee not appearing in the list: add the payee first from the Payees section, then return to the Payments tab and start the ACH again.
