How to Pay a Quick Request

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Paying a Quick Request takes 1-3 minutes and lets you send money to a business by credit or debit card, digital wallet, ACH, wire, or a direct bank debit through Plaid.

What you need before you start

  • The Quick Request link the business sent you by email, text, or another message

  • A payment method the business enabled: a credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, your bank's ACH or wire tools, or online banking credentials your bank uses with Plaid

  • A device with internet access; digital wallets require a supported iOS or Android device with Apple Pay or Google Pay set up

  • The billing ZIP or postal code associated with the card if paying by card

What payment options can I use?

The business sending the request chooses which methods are available. You will see only the options they enabled on the payment page:

  • Credit or debit card: enter your card details on the request page and confirm

  • Digital wallet: pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay on a supported device

  • ACH or domestic wire: send a payment directly from your bank to the business's account using the routing and account details Relay displays

  • Pay by bank (ACH debit via Plaid): sign in to your bank inside the request page and authorize a debit from a linked account

If a method you want is not shown, the business did not enable it for this request. Reach out to them to ask for another option.

How do I pay a Quick Request step by step?

Follow these five steps to submit payment, then use the method-specific instructions below.

  1. Open the Quick Request link from your email, text, or the message the business sent you.

  2. Review the amount, business name, and any invoice or memo notes. Confirm the payment matches what you expect before choosing a method.

  3. Select a payment method from the options shown on the request page.

  4. Complete the method-specific steps below.

  5. Submit the payment and save the confirmation page for your records.

Paying by credit or debit card

  1. Select Credit/Debit Card on the request page.

  2. Enter your card number, expiry date, CVV, and the billing ZIP or postal code on file with your card issuer.

  3. Click Confirm to submit the payment.

Paying with Apple Pay or Google Pay

  1. Select the digital wallet option on the request page.

  2. Approve the payment using your device's Face ID, Touch ID, PIN, or fingerprint.

  3. Wait for the confirmation screen before closing the page.

Paying by ACH or domestic wire

  1. Select ACH/Domestic Wire on the request page.

  2. Copy the routing number, account number, and reference or memo details Relay displays.

  3. Log in to your bank's online banking or visit a branch, and initiate the transfer using the details you copied.

  4. Include the reference exactly as shown so the business can match the incoming payment to your Quick Request.

Paying by bank (ACH debit through Plaid)

  1. Select Pay by bank on the request page.

  2. Search for your bank in the Plaid list and sign in with your online banking credentials.

  3. Choose the account you want to pay from.

  4. Confirm the amount and authorize the ACH debit.

What if my bank does not connect with Plaid?

If your bank does not appear in Plaid or the connection fails, choose one of the other payment methods the business enabled, such as card, digital wallet, ACH, or wire. Plaid does not support every institution, so an alternate method is often the fastest resolution.

How do I know my payment was received?

You will see a confirmation screen after submitting, and the business will see the payment in their Relay account. Timing depends on the method: card and digital wallet payments confirm within minutes; ACH and Pay by bank typically settle within 1-3 business days; wires usually settle the same business day if sent before your bank's cutoff.

Common issues

  • Card declined: Confirm the billing ZIP matches what your card issuer has on file, check with your bank for a hold, or try a different card. Some issuers block unfamiliar merchants until you approve them.

  • Plaid does not list my bank: Not every institution is supported by Plaid. Use ACH, wire, or a card instead.

  • The payment option I want is missing: The business chooses which methods to enable per request. Contact them if you need a method they did not turn on.

  • SMS verification code did not arrive: For some payments Relay sends a one-time code to the phone on file with your card issuer or bank. Check your signal, wait 60 seconds, and request a new code if needed.

  • The amount looks wrong: Do not submit. Contact the business that sent the request and ask them to update the amount before you pay.
