Connecting Relay to QuickBooks Online sets up an automatic bank feed that pulls settled transactions from your Relay checking and savings accounts into QuickBooks every few hours. Setup typically takes about five minutes.
What you need before you start
Administrator or Manager permissions on your Relay account
Active access to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription
A desktop or laptop browser (the Relay mobile app doesn't support connecting bank feeds)
Your Relay login credentials
Card activity, including transactions on the Relay Visa® Credit Card, doesn't sync through this bank feed. If you need your credit card transactions in QuickBooks, use the separate Relay Visa® Credit Card integration linked in Related articles.
How do I connect Relay to QuickBooks Online?
Complete these five steps to establish the bank feed:
Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
Open the Bank accounts section and click Connect accounts.
Search for "Relay Financial" and select it from the list.
Enter your Relay login credentials when prompted.
Review the checking and savings accounts you want to sync (all accounts are pre-selected by default; deselect any you want to exclude), then confirm.
QuickBooks completes the connection and begins pulling in your settled Relay transactions.
Do I need to set up matching accounts in my QBO Chart of Accounts?
Yes. After the connection completes, QuickBooks needs a matching bank account in your Chart of Accounts for each Relay account you're syncing. Create a Chart of Accounts entry for every Relay checking or savings account you selected during setup so transactions have a destination.
How do I manage my integration settings after setup?
Open the Manage panel on the Relay integration screen in QuickBooks. From there you can adjust four areas:
Bank feeds selection: turn syncing on or off for specific Relay accounts
Account mapping: link each Relay account to its matching QBO Chart of Accounts entry
Transaction detail settings: control how much transaction metadata pushes into QuickBooks
Bill and vendor imports: bring your existing QuickBooks bills and vendors into Relay for AP workflows
What transactions appear in the QuickBooks bank feed?
Only settled transactions from your Relay checking and savings accounts appear in the QuickBooks bank feed. Pending transactions don't sync, and Relay pushes settled transactions to QuickBooks automatically every few hours.
Card transactions, including debit and credit card activity, don't appear in this bank feed. To sync Relay Visa® Credit Card activity into QuickBooks, use the credit card integration.
Does Relay integrate with QuickBooks Desktop?
No. Relay's QuickBooks bank feed only supports QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks Desktop isn't supported.
Common issues
Transactions aren't appearing in QuickBooks. Confirm the affected accounts are selected in the Bank feeds selection panel and mapped to a QBO Chart of Accounts entry. Only settled transactions sync; pending transactions won't appear.
You renamed a Relay account and QuickBooks still shows the old name. Account name changes don't sync automatically between the two platforms. Update the name in both Relay and QuickBooks Online to keep them aligned.
The connection prompt won't accept your credentials. Confirm you're using your current Relay login and that your Relay role is Administrator or Manager. Roles below Manager can't authorize the integration.
You can't find "Relay Financial" in the QuickBooks bank list. Confirm you're using QuickBooks Online (not QuickBooks Desktop) and searching from the Bank accounts section rather than a different module.
Your Relay Visa® Credit Card activity isn't syncing. Card transactions don't flow through the bank feed. Set up the separate Relay Visa® Credit Card integration to sync credit card activity.
