Biometric authentication lets you sign in to the Relay mobile app with Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint instead of typing your password every time.
What you need before you start
The Relay mobile app installed on iOS or Android
A device that supports biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, or a fingerprint reader)
Biometric authentication already set up at the device level in your phone's settings
Your current Relay username and password
How do I turn on biometric authentication in Relay?
Follow these five steps inside the Relay mobile app.
Sign in to the Relay mobile app with your username and password.
Tap the Settings tab.
Tap Preferences.
Toggle Use Biometric Authentication on. The toggle turns green when active.
Sign out and sign back in. You will be prompted to use Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint at the next login.
Which devices support biometric sign-in?
Any device that supports Face ID, Touch ID, or a fingerprint reader at the operating system level will work with the Relay mobile app. Supported hardware includes:
iPhones with Face ID or Touch ID
Samsung, Google Pixel, LG, and Nokia devices with fingerprint readers
Other Android devices with a fingerprint reader enabled in system settings
If your device does not support biometrics, the Use Biometric Authentication toggle will not appear in Preferences.
Can I use more than one fingerprint to sign in?
Yes. Any fingerprint registered on your device can unlock the Relay app. If your spouse, business partner, or a team member has a fingerprint stored on the same phone, they will also be able to open the app. Keep this in mind when deciding whether to enable biometric sign-in on a shared device.
Where is my biometric data stored?
Your fingerprint and face data stay on your device. Relay does not see, receive, or store your biometric data at any point. When you sign in, the Relay app asks your phone's operating system to verify you, and the operating system returns a yes or no answer.
How do I sign in if biometric authentication fails?
Cancel the biometric prompt at sign-in, and the app will fall back to your username and password. If you have forgotten your password, reset it from the forgot password page.
Common issues
The Use Biometric Authentication toggle does not appear. Your device does not support biometrics, or biometrics have not been set up in your phone's system settings. Enable Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint at the operating system level first, then reopen Relay.
You are not prompted for biometrics after signing out. The toggle did not save. Go back to Settings > Preferences and confirm Use Biometric Authentication is green.
Biometric sign-in stops working after an operating system update. Re-enroll your fingerprints or face at the operating system level, then open the Relay app and sign in once with your password to re-trigger the biometric prompt.
