What Happens After You Submit Your Relay Application

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Relay reviews your business and personal details after you apply, typically within 1–2 business days, and emails you when your application status updates.

How does Relay review my application?

Relay runs your submission through a multi-step review to confirm your business meets U.S. banking regulations. Compliance and banking partners at Thread Bank, Member FDIC verify your business details, identity, and ownership structure before your Relay account opens. You will receive a confirmation email as soon as your application is submitted.

How long does the application review take?

Most Relay applications are reviewed within 1–2 business days. If your submission is missing information or triggers additional screening, review can take longer. You will get an email each time your application status changes.

What do the different application statuses mean?

Your application moves through one of five statuses during review:

  • Approved: Your Relay account is ready to use. You will receive a welcome email with next steps.

  • In Review: Compliance and banking partners are still reviewing your submission.

  • Waiting on Documents: A required document is missing or unclear. Check your email for a request from the onboarding team.

  • Waiting on Beneficial Owner: A person who owns 25% or more of the business has not completed their registration.

  • Under Review: The Relay onboarding team is running additional screening on your business or industry.

Why is my application taking longer than 1–2 business days?

Applications extend past the standard timeline for one of four reasons:

  • A document upload is missing, blurry, or does not match your business records

  • Identity information for you or another owner could not be verified automatically

  • A beneficial owner has not accepted their invite to complete their portion of the application

  • Your industry or business activity requires additional screening by the onboarding team

What if Relay needs more information from me?

The onboarding team will email you directly with what is needed. Response time depends on how quickly you send the requested documents or answers, so reply to that email with the requested items and your application will resume review.

What happens after my Relay application is approved?

Once you are approved, follow four steps to start using your Relay account:

  1. Open the welcome email from Relay and click through to the dashboard.

  2. Log in to your Relay account.

  3. Link an external bank account or make your first deposit.

  4. Invite team members or your accountant if you want shared access.
