Relay accepts six document types for verifying a business owner's residential address or a business entity's operating address, provided each document is dated within the last six months.
When does Relay request address verification?
Relay requests address verification when it needs to confirm either the business owner's personal residential address or the business entity's operating address during the account application review. Every submitted document must be dated within the last six months, delivered in PDF format, written in English, and display the full name of the owner and business.
Which documents does Relay accept?
The following documents qualify for address verification, as long as they are dated within the last six months:
Utility bill, including a mobile phone or internet service bill
Bank statement (see section on ineligible bank statements below)
Lease agreement, provided it is still active
Pay stub
Insurance bill or statement (auto or medical insurance)
U.S. driver's license, unexpired, for personal addresses only
What are the address requirements?
Only physical street addresses are accepted for verification. The following address types cannot be used:
PO Boxes
Virtual mailboxes
Mailbox rental services
Which bank statements are not accepted?
Relay cannot accept bank statements issued by certain fintech platforms for address verification. This includes statements from:
Revolut
Mercury
Bluevine
If your bank statement is issued by one of these platforms, please submit another accepted document listed above.
Can I use a Registered Agent address?
U.S. residents can use a Registered Agent address for the business address only, provided they supply a valid U.S. residential address for for their personal address. Non-U.S. residents can use a Registered Agent address for the business address, but must provide residential addresses for all beneficial owners of the business.
You cannot use a Registered Agent address as a personal address. Each business owner must submit a residential address and may be asked to provide verification documentation (e.g., a utility bill or bank statement).
How do I submit my address verification documents?
Upload your documents through the secure link Relay sends when verification is requested during your application review. If you have already applied and need to resubmit, respond to the email from Relay's onboarding team with your updated documents attached as PDFs.
