How to Transfer Money Between Your Relay Accounts

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Once you've opened multiple checking or savings accounts inside Relay, you can move money between them in about a minute, and set the transfer to repeat on a schedule.

What you need before you start

  • An active Relay account with at least two checking or savings accounts open

  • Available balance in the source account equal to or greater than the transfer amount

  • Access via the Relay web app or the Relay mobile app (iOS or Android)

How do I make a one-time internal transfer on the web?

Sign in to your Relay account, open Move money from the home page, and choose Basic Transfer.

  1. Enter the amount you want to move.

  2. Select the source account (where the money leaves from).

  3. Select the destination account (where the money lands).

  4. Set the frequency to "One-time."

  5. Add a memo if you want to label the transfer for your records.

  6. Review the details, then confirm.

The transfer posts to both accounts as soon as you confirm, so your available balance reflects the change right away.

How do I schedule a recurring internal transfer?

Follow the same web steps as a one-time transfer, then change the frequency to a recurring pattern before you confirm.

  1. Open Move money and choose Basic Transfer.

  2. Enter the amount, source account, and destination account.

  3. Change frequency from "One-time" to a recurring pattern: daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

  4. Pick the start date.

  5. Add an optional memo.

  6. Confirm.

You can edit or cancel a recurring transfer at any time from the Move money area.

How do I split one transfer across multiple accounts?

Use Multi-Account Transfer to send money from a single source account to several destination accounts in one action.

  1. Open Move money and choose Multi-Account Transfer.

  2. Select the source account.

  3. Add each destination account and specify either a dollar amount or a percentage for each.

  4. Check that the totals match the amount leaving the source account.

  5. Review and confirm.

Multi-Account Transfer is useful if you allocate every incoming dollar across categories, for example a Profit First setup where a deposit gets split into Profit, Owner's Pay, Tax, and Operating Expenses.

How do I transfer between accounts on the Relay mobile app?

Open the Relay mobile app, tap Move money, and select "Transfer between accounts."

  1. Choose the source account.

  2. Choose the destination account.

  3. Enter the amount.

  4. Set frequency to one-time or recurring.

  5. Add an optional memo.

  6. Tap to confirm.

The mobile flow supports the same one-time and recurring options available on the web.

What happens if I don't have enough money in the source account?

Relay cannot process a transfer if the source account doesn't have enough available balance to cover it. You'll see a notification, and the confirmation button stays disabled until you either lower the amount or pick a source account with enough available balance.

Common issues

  • Confirmation button won't activate. The transfer amount likely exceeds the source account's available balance. Check the balance in the source account or lower the amount.

  • A recurring transfer didn't run. The source account may have been below the required balance on the scheduled date. Adjust the amount, top up the source account, or review your auto-transfer settings.

  • Wrong destination account selected. One-time internal transfers post as soon as you confirm. If money landed in the wrong internal account, start a reverse transfer from the destination back to the account you intended.

  • An account is missing from the dropdown. Only active checking and savings accounts appear as source or destination options. Recently closed or archived accounts won't show up.
