What are the fees and limits for external transfers?
There is no transfer fee for sending money from your Relay checking account to a linked external bank account. Daily and monthly transaction limits apply to every Relay Account and vary by plan and account history. You can view your current limits in the app under Settings or request an increase if you need to send more than your current limit allows.
Why can't I transfer funds to an external account?
If a transfer won't go through, one of these four conditions usually applies.
The amount is above your available balance. External transfers can't exceed the sending account's available balance. Available balance is different from running balance; it excludes pending transactions.
You're transferring from a savings account. Only Relay checking accounts can initiate external transfers. To send from a savings account, move the money to a checking account first, then send the external transfer.
The receiving account isn't linked yet. The external bank account needs to be linked to Relay before it appears in the Transfer to dropdown.
You've hit a daily or monthly limit. Every Relay Account has transaction limits that reset on a daily and monthly cycle. If you're at your limit, wait until the next cycle or request a limit increase.
Common issues
The external account doesn't appear in the dropdown. Link the account first, then try again. If the account is already linked, close the transfer window and reopen it to refresh the list.
The transfer is stuck as pending. External transfers process in 1 to 3 business days. If a transfer hasn't cleared after 3 business days, contact the Customer Experience team.
The amount field is greyed out. The sending account has no available balance to send. Check available balance under the account name.
You want to send from a savings account. Move the money to a checking account first using an internal transfer, then send the external transfer from the checking account.
You need to cancel a scheduled transfer. Scheduled and recurring transfers can be cancelled before they process. See "Cancelling a scheduled or recurring transfer" in the related articles below.
