How to Transfer Money Between Two Relay Business Accounts

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

If you run more than one business on Relay, you can move money between them by adding the receiving business as a payee and sending an ACH payment from the sending business.

What you need before you start

Two things need to be in place before you can transfer between two Relay business accounts.

  • Two active Relay accounts, one for the sending business and one for the receiving business

  • Access to both accounts, whether they share a single login or use separate logins

  • The account number and routing number of the receiving business's checking account

  • A checking account in the sending business to use as the source (ACH payments cannot be sent from a savings account)

Why do I need to send an ACH instead of using an internal transfer?

Internal transfers only move money between the checking and savings accounts inside one business. To move money between two separate businesses, you send an ACH payment from the sending business to the receiving business as a payee.

This is true even when both businesses are registered under the same Relay login. Each business is a distinct legal entity with its own account and routing numbers, so the movement of money is a payment, not an internal transfer.

How do I add the receiving business as a payee?

Add the receiving business as an ACH payee in the sending business's Payments tab before you initiate the first transfer.

  1. Sign in to your Relay account and switch to the business you want to send money from.

  2. From your Home page, click Payments.

  3. Click Add a payee.

  4. Enter the receiving business's legal name.

  5. Enter the account number and routing number for the receiving business's checking account.

  6. Review the details and save.

The payee is now available in the Payments tab. You only need to add the receiving business once; it stays saved for future transfers.

How do I send an ACH payment to the other business?

Once the receiving business is saved as a payee, send the ACH from the Payments tab in the sending business.

  1. Sign in to your Relay account and switch to the sending business.

  2. From your Home page, click Payments.

  3. Click Send ACH.

  4. Select the receiving business from your list of payees.

  5. Choose a checking account in the sending business as the source of the payment.

  6. Enter the amount you want to transfer.

  7. Add memo details for your records, if needed.

  8. Review the payment details and click Confirm.

The payment will land in the receiving business's checking account once the ACH clears.

How long does the transfer take and what does it cost?

ACH transfers between two Relay business accounts typically complete within the same business day, and there is no per-ACH transaction fee on Relay.

  • Timing: Transfers typically complete within the same business day, depending on the time of day the payment is submitted.

  • Cost: There is no per-ACH transaction fee for ACH payments on Relay, including transfers between two Relay business accounts you own.

  • Limits: ACH send limits are set per account. Daily and monthly limits apply. To view your current limits, see Viewing your account limits.

Common issues

  • The receiving business is not showing up in the payee list. The payee needs to be added in the sending business's Payments tab first. Switch to the sending business, click Add a payee, and enter the receiving business's checking account and routing numbers.

  • The Send ACH option is not available for the account you want to use. ACH payments can only be sent from a checking account. If your funds are in a savings account, run an internal transfer to a checking account first, then send the ACH.

  • The payment failed because you hit an account limit. ACH send limits are set per account, with daily and monthly caps. If you need a higher limit, submit a transaction limit increase request.

  • You accidentally entered the wrong account or routing number. Edit or archive the payee before the next send. See Adding and archiving a payee for the update flow.

  • You want the transfer to go the other direction on a recurring basis. Repeat the same setup in the other business: add the first business as a payee and send an ACH from there. Payees are scoped to the sending business, not shared across businesses.
