How to Register a Second Business with the Same Login

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

You can register multiple businesses to a single Relay login. Each business needs its own EIN, formation documents, and application approval to open a Relay account.

What you need before you start

Have these ready for the new business you're adding:

  • The business is legally registered and operating in the U.S.

  • The business's own EIN

  • The business's formation documents (Articles of Incorporation, LLC operating agreement, or equivalent)

  • Government-issued ID for each beneficial owner

Each business needs its own EIN and formation documents. You cannot reuse the documents from your first Relay account.

Can I use the same login for multiple businesses?

Yes. Your Relay login lets you add any number of legally distinct U.S. businesses under one email and password. Each business goes through its own application and approval, and each keeps its own accounts, team, and settings once open.

How do I add a second business to my Relay account?

Follow these steps from the desktop dashboard:

  1. Sign in to your Relay account.

  2. Click your current business name in the top-left corner of the dashboard.

  3. In the dropdown, select + Add another business, or + Add another client if you are on an accountant or bookkeeper profile.

  4. Complete the new Business Application, including legal name, owner information, EIN letter, Articles of Incorporation, and beneficial-owner ID.

  5. Submit the application. You will receive a confirmation email and can track approval status from the same dashboard dropdown.

How do I switch between businesses once approved?

Use the business switcher in your Relay dashboard.

  • Desktop: click the dropdown in the top-left dashboard header and select the business you want to view.

  • Mobile app: open Settings, tap Switch Business, and select the business.

Each business you switch into keeps its own checking accounts, savings accounts, team permissions, transactions, and settings. Nothing is shared between businesses beyond the login itself.

What if my business changes entity type?

Open a new Relay account for the new entity. You cannot change the entity type of a business after approval, so a sole proprietorship that later incorporates as an LLC, for example, needs a new Business Application against the LLC's EIN and formation documents.

Common issues

  • The + Add another business option is missing. You may be signed in on a linked accountant profile that does not have permission to add clients. Check with your firm admin, or reach out to our Customer Experience team.

  • The application asks for documents that match my first business. Each business must submit unique EIN and formation documents. Reused documents will not pass verification.

  • My second application is stuck in review. Approval times vary based on entity type and documentation quality. See What Happens After You Submit Your Application for the standard timeline.

  • I want to combine two separate logins into one profile. That is a different flow. See Merging two business accounts with separate logins.
