Getting Started With Relay Invoices

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Relay Invoicing is a built-in tool for creating branded invoices, accepting card, ACH, wire, or Pay by bank payments, and tracking payment status inside your Relay Account.

What is Relay Invoicing?

Relay Invoicing is a professional invoicing tool included with every Relay Account. You can build branded invoices from your dashboard, accept multiple payment methods, apply taxes and discounts, attach supporting files, and monitor each invoice from draft to payment.

You do not need a separate plan or add-on to send your first invoice. Invoicing is available on the Starter Plan, Grow Plan, and Scale Plan.

Who can use Relay Invoicing?

Relay Invoicing is available to business customers with any of the following roles:

  • Administrator

  • Manager

  • Advisor (Super Admin only)

Employee and View-Only roles cannot create or send invoices.

How do I access Invoicing in Relay?

Invoicing lives in the left-hand navigation of your Relay dashboard. To open it:

  1. Sign in to your Relay Account.

  2. Select Invoices in the left-hand menu.

  3. Select New Invoice to start a new invoice.

How does the Relay Invoicing workflow work?

Every Relay invoice moves through three stages: create, send, and track.

  1. Create the invoice. Select or add a contact, then add the invoice date, due date, line items, taxes, and discounts. Choose which payment methods you want to accept and attach up to five files, such as contracts or receipts.

  2. Send or save. Email the invoice to your client directly from Relay, or save it and deliver it manually as a PDF.

  3. Track payment status. Each invoice updates through draft, sent, viewed, and paid statuses. Turn on automatic reminders so Relay follows up when an invoice is due or overdue.

Which payment methods can I accept on a Relay invoice?

Relay invoices support four payment methods:

  • Credit or debit card (available after card payment onboarding; processing fees apply)

  • Pay by bank (ACH debit via Plaid)

  • ACH transfer (your client pushes the payment manually)

  • Domestic wire transfer

You choose which methods to enable on each invoice at the point of creation.

How do I turn on card payments?

A Business Owner on the account must complete card payment onboarding through Adyen before card acceptance becomes available on your invoices. Once Adyen approves the onboarding, the card payment option appears on every new invoice you create.

How do I customize an invoice with my branding?

Relay lets you brand every invoice with your business identity. In your invoice settings, you can:

  • Upload your company logo

  • Add your business name, contact information, and social links

  • Set a custom invoice number prefix

  • Choose primary and secondary colors

  • Select from designed invoice layouts

  • Enable or disable automatic payment reminders
