Getting Started With Relay's Quick Request Feature

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Quick Requests let you collect payment from a customer by sending a shareable link they can pay by card, ACH, wire, or a Plaid-connected bank account.

What you need before you start

  • A Relay account with Administrator or Manager permissions (advisors need Super Administrator permissions)

  • Your business industry confirmed on first use, aligned with NAICS classification

  • A checking account selected as your default payout account

  • The customer's name and email address

What is a Quick Request?

A Quick Request is a payment link you send to a customer to collect money for goods or services rendered. Common use cases include renovation contractors and plumbers billing after a completed job, when you want the customer to choose their preferred way to pay and settle quickly.

How do I send a Quick Request from the web?

Send a Quick Request from your Relay account on desktop in these nine steps:

  1. Sign in to your Relay account on desktop.

  2. Open the Invoices tab in the left navigation.

  3. Click Quick Request.

  4. Confirm your industry (first use only).

  5. Enter the customer's name and email address.

  6. Choose a default payout account.

  7. Accept the Quick Requests terms and conditions.

  8. Click Create a Quick Request.

  9. Click Review Request to open the Quick Request dashboard and share the payment link with your customer.

How do I send a Quick Request from the mobile app?

Send a Quick Request from the Relay mobile app in these nine steps:

  1. Sign in to the Relay mobile app.

  2. Tap Request Money.

  3. Select an existing contact, or add a new one on the Contacts page.

  4. For a new contact, enter name, email, phone number (optional), and billing address (optional).

  5. Choose Create Contact to save the contact, or send as a one-time request.

  6. Enter the requested amount.

  7. Choose the payment methods you'll accept: card, ACH, wire, Pay by bank, or a saved card on file.

  8. Add request details: due date, notes (optional), and attachments (optional).

  9. Review, then choose Create payment link or Create and send request.

Who can send a Quick Request?

Only team members with Administrator or Manager permissions can send Quick Requests. Advisors need Super Administrator permissions.

How can my customer pay a Quick Request?

Customers see the payment amount, due date, and any attached notes on the payment page. They can pay using any of the methods you enabled:

  • Credit or debit card: the customer enters card details on the payment page

  • ACH or domestic wire: the customer uses the ACH or wire details shown on the page to push payment from their bank

  • Pay by bank (ACH debit): the customer connects their bank via Plaid and authorizes a debit

Only one contact can pay a given Quick Request link. If you need to bill multiple parties, send a separate Quick Request to each. The account details shown to the customer are receive-only, so your primary account information stays protected.

How do I change my default payout account?

The default payout account is where Quick Request payments settle. To change it:

  1. Sign in to your Relay account on the web.

  2. Open the Get Paid tab.

  3. Click Settings.

  4. Choose a new default payout account from the dropdown.

Future Quick Request payments will settle into the new account. This setting is only editable on the web.

How do I archive a Quick Request?

Archiving moves a Quick Request out of the main table while keeping it accessible. To archive one manually:

  1. Sign in to your Relay account.

  2. Go to the Quick Requests page.

  3. Find the request you want to archive.

  4. Click Archive in the Actions column.

Relay automatically archives Quick Requests 30 days after they are marked paid or canceled. Automatic archiving runs daily at midnight.

How do I view or restore archived Quick Requests?

Archived Quick Requests stay searchable and can be moved back to the main view. To find or restore one:

  1. Open the Quick Requests page.

  2. Click View archived payments at the bottom of the table.

  3. Search or filter in the Archived Quick Requests view to find the request.

  4. Open the three-dot menu and choose Unarchive to move it back to the main table.

How do I cancel or resend a Quick Request?

On the web, open Get Paid > Requests to see every Quick Request with its status (paid, unpaid, processing, or canceled). From that table you can:

  • Copy the payment link to resend it to the customer

  • Click the three-dot menu beside the payment link and choose Cancel Request

On the mobile app, tap Payments, then Quick Requests to view every request, copy a payment link, open a QR code, filter by status, contact, or date, and use the three-dot menu to cancel or mark as paid.

How long do Quick Request payments take to settle, and what do they cost?

Settlement times and fees vary by payment method and the customer's sending bank. See Invoices & Quick Requests: Processing Fees, Settlement Timelines & Limits for the current rates and timelines.

Are there restrictions on who I can bill by card?

Yes. Card payments are not available for every business or country. Certain business owner nationalities and residencies are not eligible for card processing, and certain industries are excluded. See Countries Not Eligible for Card Payments With Invoices or Quick Requests and Industries Not Eligible for Card Payment Requests for the current lists.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Relay confirm my industry the first time I use Quick Requests? Relay partners with Adyen to process Quick Request payments. Adyen's processing requirements ask that your business industry match its NAICS classification before you can send your first request.

Can I edit a contact after I create it? Yes. Open the Get Paid tab, click Contacts, and click the pencil icon beside any contact to edit their information.

Why are there separate Terms and Conditions for Quick Requests? The Adyen partnership and PCI card-processing requirements carry additional terms. Accepting them is only required to enable card payments; ACH, wire, and Pay by bank remain available without agreement.

What happens to older Quick Requests I've already been paid for? Relay automatically archives Quick Requests marked paid or canceled more than 60 days ago. Archiving runs daily at midnight. Archived requests are not deleted; they move to the Archived Quick Requests table so your main view stays uncluttered.

Common issues

  • The customer's payment link will not load. The request may have been canceled or already paid. Check the Quick Requests table for its current status, and send a new link if needed.

  • The customer cannot pay by card. Card processing is not available in every country and depends on the business owner's citizenship and residency. Check the ineligible-countries and ineligible-industries lists linked above, and offer ACH, wire, or Pay by bank as alternatives.

  • You don't see a Quick Request option in your Relay account. Only Administrators, Managers, or advisors with Super Administrator permissions can send Quick Requests. Ask your account's Super Administrator to grant you the right role.

  • Payments are settling into the wrong account. Confirm your default payout account under Get Paid > Settings on the web. Only future payments follow the new default; previously settled payments stay where they landed.
