How to Set Up Your Customized Switching Checklist in Relay

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Relay generates a customized switching checklist that lists every recurring transaction tied to your linked external account, so you know exactly what to update when you switch.

What you need before you start

  • A desktop browser (the switching checklist runs from the Relay web app, not the mobile app)

  • Administrator access on your Relay account, or Super Administrator advisor access on a client account

  • An external bank account to link (business accounts work best; a personal account can link, but recurring transaction data may be limited)

How do I set up my switching checklist?

Link an external bank account from the Setup tab, and Relay generates the checklist automatically from its recurring transaction history.

  1. Sign in to your Relay account from a desktop browser.

  2. Open the Setup tab.

  3. Find the "Link an external account to Relay" item and click Get started.

  4. Follow the prompts to connect your external account. For step-by-step help, see Connecting a bank account.

  5. Once the account is linked, click View checklist.

  6. Wait a few moments while Relay generates your checklist from the account's transaction history.

  7. Click View Relay account details to see your new Relay account and routing numbers, vendor update instructions, and a link to download a bank verification letter.

  8. As you update each vendor (Stripe, PayPal, payroll, insurance, and so on) with your new Relay details, tick the box next to that vendor to mark the transaction as moved.

Who can access the switching checklist?

Only team members with Administrator access, or advisors with Super Administrator access on a client account, can generate and use the switching checklist. You also need to be signed in on a desktop browser.

Can I use the checklist with more than one external bank account?

Yes. Link each additional external bank account through the Setup tab, and Relay adds its recurring transactions to the same checklist.

Can I use the checklist without a business bank account?

You can link a personal bank account if that's what you use for the business today. Relay may not be able to pull recurring transaction data from a personal account, so the checklist could be partial or empty in that case.

Is using the switching checklist required?

No, the checklist is optional. For owners moving Relay into the primary business account seat, it helps make sure no vendor, subscription, or payroll deposit gets left behind on the old account.

Common issues

  • Checklist won't generate. Refresh the page and confirm the external account finished linking. If the error persists, contact the Customer Experience team.

  • Checklist is empty or missing transactions. The linked account may be personal, or may not have enough transaction history for Relay to detect recurring patterns.

  • Can't see the Setup tab. Your role likely doesn't have Administrator access. Ask your account owner to upgrade your permissions.

  • Bank verification letter missing. Open the "View Relay account details" panel inside the checklist. The download link is there, alongside your account and routing numbers.
