After you open your Relay Account, replace your old routing, account, and debit card details on every third-party app that pulls or pushes money for your business.
What you need before you start
Your new Relay checking account number and routing number, both visible on the Accounts screen in your Relay dashboard
Your Relay Visa® Debit Card details, physical or virtual (card number, expiry, CVV)
A running list of every third-party service that either debits your account, deposits payouts into it, or charges a card on file
Roughly 30 to 60 minutes for the first pass, plus a follow-up week to confirm everything cleared
Which apps should I update first?
Prioritize any app where a missed or bounced payment costs you money or access. A good order is payroll and tax withdrawals first, utility and rent auto-pays second, merchant payout destinations third, and recurring subscriptions last.
How do I update my payment details in each app?
The steps are the same for almost every app, even when the menu labels differ.
Sign in to the third-party app on desktop when possible; billing settings are often hidden or truncated on mobile.
Open the section labelled Billing, Payment method, Payout account, or Bank account.
Add your new Relay account as a new payment method or bank account rather than editing the old one in place.
Complete any verification the app requires. Some ask for micro-deposits (two small test transfers that arrive in one to two business days); others use an instant login flow through Plaid.
Set the new Relay method as the default and confirm the change is saved before removing the old account.
Leave the old account on file for a full billing cycle so any in-flight charges can settle, then remove it.
Where do I update money management and accounting apps?
Update accounting, bill pay, and payment processors first, since these move the largest volumes of money and often feed the rest of your books.
Intuit QuickBooks Online — update the payment method for your QuickBooks subscription and, separately, the bank account connected to your Bank Feeds
Xero — update your Xero subscription card and reconnect your Xero Bank Feed to your new Relay checking account
Hubdoc — update the billing card on your Hubdoc subscription
Bill.com — add your Relay Account as a new funding source, then set it as the default for outgoing payments
Melio — connect your Relay Account through micro-deposits or Plaid, then update the default payment source
Cash App, PayPal, Venmo — add your Relay Visa® Debit Card and your Relay routing and account number, verify, then set as primary
Stripe — update your Stripe payout account so incoming payments land in Relay
Square — update your Square subscription card, your linked bank account for payouts, and any saved cards used for supplies
Where do I update e-commerce, ads, and business tools?
Any app that either takes payouts (e-commerce, marketplaces) or charges you monthly (software, ads) needs both a bank account update and a card-on-file update.
E-commerce platforms: Shopify (billing and Shopify Payments payouts), Etsy (shop billing and payout account), eBay (payout method), Amazon (buyer payment methods and seller disbursement account), AWS (billing method)
Hospitality marketplaces: Airbnb (guest payment method and host payout method), Vrbo (billing and payout bank account)
Ads and productivity: Google Workspace, Google Ads, Microsoft, Meta Ads, LinkedIn, X Ads, Adobe, Canva, Zoom, Slack, GoDaddy, Squarespace, Wix, Calendly, Loom, Dropbox, Twilio, Anytime Mailbox
Marketing and sales tools: HubSpot, ActiveCampaign
Freelance marketplaces: Upwork, Fiverr (card details for buyers, payout methods for sellers)
For each service, open your account settings, find Billing or Payments, add the Relay Visa® Debit Card or Relay routing and account number, set it as the default, and then remove the old method after one billing cycle clears.
Where do I update everyday apps and subscriptions?
Update the card on file inside each app under its Payment method or Wallet menu.
Transportation: Uber, Lyft
Food delivery: UberEats, DoorDash, Instacart
Streaming: Netflix, Spotify
These typically only need the Relay Visa® Debit Card details, since none pull directly by ACH.
Where do I update utility providers?
Sign in to each provider's account portal and update the saved payment method for auto-pay.
Wireless: Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T
Internet and TV: Xfinity, Spectrum
Confirm the next scheduled auto-pay date on each account so you know when the new Relay method will be used for the first time.
Common issues
Micro-deposit verification is stuck. The two small test deposits typically arrive in one to two business days. If you do not see them after three business days, check your Relay transaction history for the sender's name, then re-enter the amounts in the third-party app.
The app rejects your Relay routing number. Confirm you are using the routing number displayed in your Relay dashboard for the specific checking account, not a general Thread Bank number pulled from elsewhere.
A subscription still charged the old account after you updated it. Some apps queue the next charge before your update takes effect. Leave the old account funded for one full billing cycle, then confirm the next charge lands on Relay before removing the old method.
You cannot find the "change payout account" option. Many marketplaces require sign-in on desktop rather than mobile to expose payout settings. Try again on a computer if the option is missing on your phone.
