Tracking and Managing Invoice Status in Relay

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Relay assigns each invoice one of seven statuses that show where it sits in the payment lifecycle, from draft to paid or cancelled.

Where do I find invoice statuses in Relay?

Open the Invoices tab in the left-side menu of your Relay account. The Invoices dashboard shows every invoice with its current status, plus summary totals for outstanding and overdue invoices so you can see what's pending at a glance.

Each row in the dashboard displays:

  • Client name

  • Invoice number

  • Amount

  • Due date

  • Status

What does each invoice status mean?

Relay uses seven invoice statuses, updated automatically based on client activity and payment progress.

  • Draft: The invoice is saved but has not been sent to your client.

  • Unpaid: The invoice has been sent; the client has not initiated payment.

  • Scheduled: The client selected a future payment date; funds are not yet in motion.

  • Processing: Payment has been submitted and is in transit.

  • Paid: Payment has completed and been deposited into your Relay Account.

  • Overdue: The due date has passed and no payment has been received.

  • Cancelled: The invoice or its associated Quick Request was manually cancelled.

How do I manage invoices by status?

Every status maps to a specific next action, so you know at a glance which invoices need attention and which are already in motion.

Status

Recommended action

Draft

Edit the invoice, then send when ready.

Unpaid

Resend the invoice, copy the payment link, or follow up with the client.

Scheduled

Wait for payment. No follow-up needed unless the scheduled date passes.

Processing

Monitor. Relay updates the status to Paid once funds settle.

Paid

No action needed. Funds are in your selected Relay Account.

Overdue

Follow up with the client or resend the payment link. Automated reminders may already be running.

Cancelled

Duplicate the invoice if you need to send a fresh copy.

How do I follow up on an overdue invoice?

Open the invoice from the Invoices dashboard, then choose Resend or Copy payment link to share directly with your client. If you have automated payment reminders enabled, Relay continues sending them on the schedule you set.

For invoices stuck in Processing beyond the expected settlement window, review the processing fees and settlement timelines to confirm the payment is still within its normal window before contacting your client.
