How to Configure Your Invoice Settings in Relay

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Invoice settings in Relay let you set the business name, logo, contact details, colors, and layout that appear on every invoice you send.

What you need before you start

  • A Relay account with invoicing enabled

  • Permission to edit invoice branding in your business (admin or a role that includes invoice edit access)

  • Your logo file in JPG, PNG, HEIC, or GIF, 5 MB maximum (optional, if you plan to add one)

  • Your brand color hex codes (optional, if you want to match your visual identity)

Where do I find invoice settings in Relay?

Invoice settings live inside the invoice design editor, not on the main Settings page. To open them:

  1. Sign in to your Relay account.

  2. Open Invoices from the left navigation.

  3. Select Settings at the top-right of the Invoices screen.

  4. Open the General tab.

  5. In the Branding section, select Edit on the Design thumbnail.

The Customize Invoices editor opens with two steps: Branding (visual elements) and Content (default fields and text). You can move between the two steps at any time.

What can I customize in my invoice settings?

You can customize six elements of every invoice you send from Relay:

  • Business name or DBA. Appears at the top of every invoice.

  • Company logo. Accepts JPG, PNG, HEIC, or GIF files up to 5 MB. Appears in the top corner of the invoice.

  • Business contact information. Address, phone number, and email. Each field can be shown or hidden. Displays in the invoice footer alongside any custom footer text and social links you add.

  • Brand colors. Set a primary and a secondary color, or pick from the quick presets.

  • Template. Choose Classic or Bold for a preset layout.

  • Background style. Choose Solid or Gradient for the invoice background.

Contact information and social links appear on both the PDF invoice and the online payment page your client sees.

How do I preview my invoice branding before sending?

The invoice editor shows a live preview on the right side of the screen while you make changes.

  • Use the PDF Invoice / Payment page toggle to see how your branding looks in each view.

  • Your logo and business details populate the top and bottom of each preview automatically.

  • Changes you save in the Customize Invoices editor apply to all future invoices only. Past invoices keep the formatting they were created with.

What are the best practices for invoice branding?

Three settings make the biggest difference to how professional your invoices feel:

  • Use a square, high-contrast logo. Square logos scale cleanly to the top corner of the invoice, and high-contrast versions stay legible on both light and dark backgrounds. A 400×400 pixel logo usually renders cleanly.

  • Keep contact information current. Address, phone, and email pull straight from your settings, so an out-of-date entry ships on every new invoice until you update it.

  • Pick a short, consistent invoice number prefix. If you use one, keeping it to 2–5 characters helps clients reference invoices quickly.

Common issues and fixes

  • Logo won't upload. Confirm the file is JPG, PNG, HEIC, or GIF and under 5 MB. Files above 5 MB may fail silently.

  • Logo looks blurry on the PDF. Upload a higher-resolution version. A square image at least 400×400 pixels usually renders cleanly.

  • Branding changes aren't appearing on a specific invoice. Past invoices keep the branding they were created with. Duplicate the invoice to pick up your current settings.

  • A field is missing from the footer. Address, phone, and email each toggle independently. Reopen Branding in the Customize Invoices editor and confirm each field is turned on.

  • Preview doesn't refresh. Save your changes in the Customize Invoices editor first, then reopen the invoice draft. The live preview reads from saved settings.
