Roles that can create and send invoices:
Administrator
Manager

Roles that cannot:
Employee
View-Only user
What can you do with Relay Invoicing?
Relay Invoicing supports six core actions from inside your Relay Account:
Create and send branded invoices with your logo, colors, and business details
Accept credit or debit card, ACH, wire, or Pay by bank payments
Attach up to five files per invoice, including contracts and receipts
Export invoices as PDFs for manual delivery or record-keeping
Track invoice status from draft through payment
Enable automatic reminders for due or overdue invoices
How does Relay Invoicing work?
Every invoice moves through three phases: create, send, and track.
Create an invoice. Select or add a contact, set issue and due dates, add line items, taxes, and discounts, choose which payment methods to accept, and upload any attachments.
Send or save. Click Create and send an invoice to email your client a secure payment link, or click Only Create Invoice to save the invoice and export a PDF for manual delivery.
Track payment status. Monitor invoices from the Invoices tab, where statuses include Sent, Paid, and Overdue. Turn on automatic reminders under Invoices > Settings.
How do I open the Invoicing tool?
Sign in to Relay, select Invoices in the left-hand menu, then click New Invoice in the top right of the Invoices page.
Which payment methods can your clients use?
Your clients can pay a Relay invoice using one of four methods, and you choose which ones to offer on each invoice:
Credit or debit card, available once card payment onboarding is complete (processing fees apply)
Pay by bank, using ACH debit through Plaid
ACH transfer, sent as a manual push from your client's bank
Domestic wire transfer
Processing fees vary by Relay Subscription Plan. See Invoice Payment fees and Plan Comparison in Relay for the current breakdown.
How do you turn on card payments for invoices?
A Business Owner on the Relay Account must complete Adyen onboarding before card payments can be offered to clients. Adyen is Relay's payment processor for card acceptance on invoices and Quick Requests.
Administrators, Managers, and Advisor Super Admins can still create and send invoices with other payment methods, but only a Business Owner can finish the onboarding steps that unlock card payments.
To complete card payment onboarding:
Sign in to Relay as a Business Owner
Create a new invoice or Quick Request and open the Payment methods section
Select the option to enable or request access to card payments
Follow the prompts to provide any business verification details or documents Adyen requests
Return to the payment methods page and accept the required terms of service once approved
After onboarding, Card payments will appear as an available option on eligible invoices and Quick Requests. If card payments do not appear, the Business Owner may need to finish onboarding, submit additional verification, or the business may not be eligible for card processing.
Card payment acceptance is a non-deposit product provided through Adyen. Not insured by the FDIC. Not a deposit. May lose value.
How do you customize your invoices?
Branding and invoice defaults live under Invoices > Settings, where you can update the look and behaviour applied to every new invoice.
Upload your company logo, and crop it at upload or afterward using the Edit function
Add your business name, contact information, and social links
Set a custom invoice number prefix
Set primary and secondary colors, with quick presets available
Choose from a set of designed layouts
Turn automatic reminders on or off
What Relay Invoicing does not do
Relay Invoicing has a few boundaries worth knowing before you set it up:
Employees and View-Only users cannot create or send invoices
Card payments require Business Owner onboarding with Adyen, and will not appear as an option until onboarding is complete
Attachments are capped at five files per invoice
International wire acceptance and non-USD currencies are not supported through invoice payments
