You can send a branded Relay invoice with a Quick Request attached so your client views the invoice and pays from a secure link in the same step, typically a 2-minute task.
What you need before you start
An active Relay account with access to Invoices
Your client's name and email address on the contact record
Line items ready to enter (description, quantity, and price)
The payment methods you want to offer (card, Pay by Bank, ACH, or wire)
A checking account selected to receive the payment
When should I send an invoice with a Quick Request?
Send an invoice with a Quick Request when you want a branded invoice and a payment link delivered together, so your client can review the invoice and pay in one flow.
Use this option when:
You want to send a detailed, branded invoice with line items
You are ready to collect payment on that invoice
You want to offer more than one way to pay (card, ACH, or wire)
If you only need a payment link without a full invoice, send a standalone Quick Request instead.
How do I send an invoice with a payment link?
Follow these five steps from your Relay dashboard.
Go to Invoices and select Create an Invoice.
Select Create, or drag and drop an existing invoice to pre-populate a draft.
Fill out the invoice details:
Invoice ID
Customer
Issue date
Payment due date
Line items
Taxes and discounts
Payment methods
Attachments (optional)
Reminder settings
Memo (optional)
Click Send invoice. Relay emails the invoice to your contact and includes a secure payment link showing the payment methods you selected.
Your client opens the payment link and pays. They can choose a credit or debit card, Pay by Bank (ACH debit via Plaid), or ACH or wire transfer, and they do not need a Relay account to complete the payment.
What does my client see when they receive the invoice?
Your client receives a branded email with your invoice attached and a Pay Invoice button that opens a secure payment page.
They see:
Line items, total amount, and due date
Any memo or file attachments you included
The payment methods you selected on the invoice
Once they submit payment, the invoice status in your Relay account updates in two stages:
Processing: payment submitted
Paid: payment settled into your selected account
For fee amounts and settlement timelines by payment method, see Invoices and Quick Requests: Processing Fees, Settlement Timelines, and Limits.
Common issues
Client says they didn't receive the invoice email: confirm the email address on the contact record, resend from the invoice detail page, and ask your client to check their spam folder.
Payment link shows fewer payment methods than expected: open the invoice draft and confirm every method you want is toggled on under Payment methods before resending.
Invoice stuck in Processing: ACH and Pay by Bank payments typically settle within a few business days, and card payments typically settle within one to two business days. If the status has not moved past that window, contact our Customer Experience team.
Client wants to pay with a method you did not offer: edit the invoice from the Invoices tab, add the payment method, and resend the invoice.
Wrong amount or line item after sending: cancel the sent invoice and create a corrected one, since sent invoices cannot be edited in place.
