How to Reset Your Xero Bank Feed in Relay

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Resetting your Xero bank feed clears the existing connection between Relay and Xero, then rebuilds it, which is the standard fix for sync errors, greyed-out buttons, and missing transactions.

What you need before you start

  • Access to Relay on desktop (adding, editing, and removing integrations is not available in the Relay mobile app)

  • An Administrator or Manager role on your Relay Account

  • A Standard or Advisor role in your Xero organization so you can manage bank feeds

  • The Xero organization ID that is currently connected to your Relay Account (helpful if you manage more than one Xero org)

When should you reset your Xero bank feed?

Reset the feed when the connection between Relay and Xero is stuck. Common triggers:

  • The manual sync button in Relay is greyed out or does nothing

  • Transactions have stopped importing into Xero even though they appear in Relay

  • Xero shows an authentication or reauthorization error on the Relay bank feed

  • You've changed the Xero organization you want Relay to sync to

  • You've added or renamed accounts on either side and the mapping is out of sync

If your feed is working but you're missing a single day of transactions, try Manually syncing your Xero Bank Feed first before doing a full reset.

Step 1: Disconnect the feed inside Xero

Start on the Xero side so Xero closes the feed cleanly before Relay drops its connection.

  1. Log in to Xero on desktop.

  2. Go to Accounting > Bank accounts.

  3. Find each Relay checking or savings account currently connected to Relay.

  4. Click Manage account > Disconnect on each Relay account.

  5. Confirm the disconnect when Xero prompts you.

Xero keeps your historical transactions after a disconnect. You are only removing the live feed, not the ledger data.

Step 2: Disconnect the Xero integration in Relay

Once the feed is disconnected in Xero, remove the integration from Relay so the next reconnect starts from a clean state.

  1. Log in to your Relay Account on desktop.

  2. Go to Settings > Integrations.

  3. Open the Xero panel.

  4. Click the red Disconnect button and confirm.

Relay will stop pushing new transactions to Xero the moment the integration is disconnected.

Step 3: Reconnect Xero to your Relay Account

With both sides disconnected, reconnect the integration to authorize a fresh bank feed.

  1. On the Settings > Integrations page in Relay, click the Xero tile.

  2. Sign in with your Xero credentials when the OAuth window opens.

  3. Choose the Xero organization you want to sync with Relay.

  4. Approve the permissions Xero requests so Relay can send transactions and manage the feed.

Step 4: Re-select the accounts and import settings

The final step maps your Relay accounts to the right Xero ledger accounts so transactions land in the correct place.

  1. In the reconnect flow, select the Relay checking and savings accounts you want to sync.

  2. Map each Relay account to the matching Xero ledger account.

  3. Choose your import start date. Only settled transactions on or after that date will appear in Xero.

  4. Save the configuration.

New transactions will start flowing to Xero on the next scheduled sync.

Common issues after a bank feed reset

  • The sync button is still greyed out. Refresh the Integrations page or sign out and back in to Relay. If the button stays greyed out, the reconnect step likely did not complete on the Xero side; retry Step 3.

  • Duplicate transactions appear in Xero. Set your import start date in Step 4 to the day after the last transaction Xero already has, so the feed picks up where the previous connection stopped.

  • Some transactions are missing. Only settled transactions sync to Xero. Pending or in-flight transactions will appear after they settle. See Understanding your available balance, running balance, and pending transactions.

  • Xero shows an authentication error. Confirm your Xero role is Standard or Advisor, then repeat Steps 2 through 4. Bank feed changes require Standard or Advisor permissions in Xero.

  • You need to sync to a different Xero organization. Complete the full reset in Steps 1 through 4 and pick the correct organization at Step 3.
