How to Withdraw Cash at an ATM With Your Relay Debit Card

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Use your Relay Visa® Debit Card at any Allpoint ATM to withdraw cash without an operator surcharge, or at any ATM where Visa is accepted (operator surcharges may apply).

What you need before you start

  • An activated Relay Visa® Debit Card (physical card required; virtual cards cannot be used at ATMs)

  • Your four-digit card PIN

  • Available balance in the Relay checking account linked to the card

  • Daily and monthly withdrawal limits set high enough to cover the amount you want, including any operator surcharge

How do I withdraw cash at an ATM?

Follow these steps at any ATM that accepts Visa:

  1. Insert your Relay Visa® Debit Card into the ATM, or tap it if the ATM supports contactless.

  2. Enter your four-digit PIN.

  3. Select Withdrawal, then choose Checking as the account type.

  4. Enter the amount you want to withdraw. At Allpoint ATMs, the per-transaction cap is $400.

  5. If the ATM operator charges a surcharge, review and accept it. The surcharge counts toward your daily and monthly withdrawal limits.

  6. Collect your cash, card, and receipt.

The withdrawal posts to your Relay checking account immediately.

Where can I withdraw cash without a surcharge?

Any Allpoint ATM in the United States processes Relay withdrawals without an operator surcharge. Allpoint is a nationwide surcharge-free ATM network with locations inside major retailers such as CVS, Walgreens, Target, and Kroger.

Use the Allpoint ATM locator to find the closest one. Enter a ZIP code or address, and the locator returns nearby machines with directions.

Does Relay charge an ATM withdrawal fee?

Relay does not charge a fee for withdrawing cash at an ATM. The ATM operator may still charge its own surcharge, which appears on-screen before you confirm the withdrawal.

If the operator surcharge would push the transaction above your daily or monthly card limit, the withdrawal will decline even if the base amount is within your limit.

What are my ATM withdrawal limits?

Every Relay Visa® Debit Card has a daily withdrawal limit and a monthly withdrawal limit that you set in the Relay app. Allpoint ATMs also apply a $400 cap per individual transaction, regardless of your card limits.

To view or edit your withdrawal limits:

  1. Open the Relay app or log in on desktop.

  2. Go to Cards and select the debit card you want to edit.

  3. Tap Card limits to see your current daily and monthly withdrawal caps.

  4. Enter new limits and save.

The final transaction amount (the cash you request plus any operator surcharge) is what counts against your limit.

Can I deposit cash at an ATM?

Yes, you can deposit cash at any Allpoint+ ATM in the United States. Allpoint+ is a subset of the Allpoint network that supports cash deposits in addition to withdrawals.

Look for the Allpoint+ badge on the ATM, or filter for "cash deposit" locations in the Allpoint locator. Deposit steps and processing timelines are covered in Adding cash to your Relay account.

Can I get a cash advance with my Relay debit card?

No. Cash advances are not supported on the Relay Visa® Debit Card. If you need cash from your Relay checking account, use an ATM withdrawal as described above.

Can I use my Relay debit card at international ATMs?

Yes, your Relay Visa® Debit Card works at most ATMs outside the United States that accept Visa. Foreign exchange charges from the ATM operator or network may apply, and the local machine may add its own surcharge.

Check the list of Countries where Relay cards are not accepted before you travel. Cards used in restricted countries will decline.

Common issues

  • The ATM declined my withdrawal but I have enough in the account. The operator surcharge probably pushed the transaction over your card limit. Raise your daily withdrawal limit in the Relay app, or request a smaller amount.

  • I forgot my PIN. Reset it in the Relay app under Cards, then use the new PIN at the ATM. Full steps in What should I do if I forgot the PIN for my debit card?.

  • The ATM ate my card or the transaction failed mid-way. Contact the ATM operator listed on the machine first. If the amount was debited from your Relay account, Talk to our Customer Experience team so we can trace the transaction.

  • The transaction posted twice. Check your Relay transactions view for a pending hold and a settled charge. Pre-authorization holds sometimes appear alongside the settled amount and release within a few days. See Pre-authorization holds for how these work.
