Adding Cash to Your Relay Account

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

You can add cash to a Relay checking account at any Allpoint+ ATM or at more than 90,000 Green Dot network retailers, with funds typically available the same business day.

What you need before you start

  • A physical Relay Visa® Debit Card (virtual cards can't be used for cash deposits)

  • The PIN for your debit card

  • Cash in US dollars, within the applicable per-transaction limit

  • The Allpoint or Green Dot locator to find a nearby deposit-enabled location

How do I deposit cash at an Allpoint+ ATM?

Insert your Relay Visa® Debit Card at any Allpoint+ ATM, select Deposit, choose the Relay checking account, and feed the cash into the machine.

  1. Use the Allpoint locator and filter for machines that accept deposits.

  2. Insert your Relay Visa® Debit Card and enter your PIN.

  3. Select Deposit, then choose the Relay checking account you want the cash to land in.

  4. Insert up to $1,000 in cash per transaction and confirm the amount on screen.

  5. Take your receipt as proof of deposit.

Key details for Allpoint+ ATM deposits:

  • Per-transaction limit: $1,000

  • Fee: Relay does not charge a fee, and Allpoint+ ATMs do not charge an ATM surcharge for cash deposits

  • Availability: Typically the same business day when deposited before 3:00 PM ET; otherwise the next business day

How do I deposit cash at a Green Dot retailer?

Bring your Relay Visa® Debit Card and cash to the customer service desk at a Green Dot network retailer, ask them to load the deposit onto your card, and hand over the cash plus the retailer's service fee.

  1. Find a nearby retailer using the Green Dot store locator. Common locations include Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, and 7-Eleven.

  2. Approach the customer service desk and tell the cashier you'd like to make a cash deposit onto your card.

  3. Hand your Relay Visa® Debit Card to the cashier and let them swipe it.

  4. Give the cashier your cash, plus the retailer's service fee (up to $4.95).

  5. Keep your receipt as proof of deposit.

Key details for Green Dot retailer deposits:

  • Per-transaction limit: $500 at most retailers, $1,000 at Walmart

  • Daily maximum: $1,500 per day across all deposits

  • Fee: Up to $4.95 per deposit, charged by the retailer (Relay does not add a fee)

  • Availability: Typically deposited within 15 minutes of the transaction

How much cash can I deposit in one day?

Cash deposit limits vary by method and by retailer.

  • Allpoint+ ATM: $1,000 per transaction

  • Green Dot retailer (most locations): $500 per transaction

  • Green Dot retailer (Walmart): $1,000 per transaction

  • Green Dot daily maximum: $1,500 across all deposits in a 24-hour period

If you need to deposit more than these limits allow, plan multiple deposits across business days or use another funding method such as an ACH transfer from a linked external bank account.

Are there fees for depositing cash?

Relay does not charge a fee to deposit cash at either Allpoint+ ATMs or Green Dot retailers.

Third-party fees still apply. Allpoint+ ATMs do not add a surcharge on cash deposits. Green Dot retailers charge their own service fee of up to $4.95 per deposit, which is set by the retailer and paid at the register.

When will my cash deposit show up?

Timing depends on which method you use.

  • Allpoint+ ATM deposits are typically available the same business day when made before 3:00 PM ET, or the next business day if made later, on a weekend, or on a bank holiday.

  • Green Dot retailer deposits are typically deposited into your Relay checking account within 15 minutes of the transaction.

Common issues and fixes

  • The ATM won't accept the deposit. Confirm you're at an Allpoint+ ATM (the "+" is required for deposits) and that the machine is listed as deposit-enabled in the Allpoint locator. Standard Allpoint ATMs support withdrawals only.

  • The cashier can't find your account at the retailer. Green Dot loads the deposit onto the card itself, not by looking up an account number. Ask the cashier to swipe your Relay Visa® Debit Card at the register.

  • The retailer charged more than $4.95. The retailer sets the fee. If it exceeds $4.95 or the posted rate, ask the cashier for the current fee schedule or try a different Green Dot location.

  • The deposit hasn't shown up after the expected window. Check the transactions list in your Relay account for a pending entry. If nothing appears after one business day for an ATM deposit or after one hour for a Green Dot deposit, contact Relay support with the deposit receipt.
