Can Relay Accounts Hold Non-USD Currencies?

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

Relay Accounts hold funds in USD only. You can still receive and send international wires in other currencies, with automatic conversion to USD at market exchange rates.

Who this is for

  • Business owners receiving payments from international customers or vendors

  • Owners sending payments to overseas suppliers or contractors

  • Anyone wondering whether Relay supports multi-currency balances

How international payments work through Relay

  • Every Relay Account balance stays in USD, regardless of the payment's origin currency.

  • Incoming international wires in non-USD currencies are converted to USD by Relay's wire partners before hitting your account.

  • Outgoing wires can be sent in a non-USD currency, converted from your USD balance at the time of send.

  • Currency conversions use market exchange rates plus a Relay conversion fee.

  • Only international wires support non-USD currency. ACH and check payments are USD only.

Can I receive non-USD payments in my Relay Account?

Yes. International wires in other currencies convert to USD automatically before deposit. Your account balance will always show USD, but the sender can pay in their local currency and Relay's wire partners handle the conversion on arrival.

How does currency conversion work on incoming wires?

Relay applies an exchange rate based on the foreign exchange market at the time the wire is received, plus a conversion fee. The USD amount that lands in your account reflects the market rate on that day, not the rate at the time the sender initiated the wire.

Can I receive ACH or check payments in non-USD currencies?

No. ACH and check deposits into a Relay Account must be in USD. Only international wires support non-USD currencies. A non-USD ACH sent to your account will be rejected.

Can I send an international wire in a non-USD currency?

Yes. You can send an international wire in the recipient's local currency directly from your Relay Account. Relay converts the wire amount from your USD balance at the time of send.

When can I send a non-USD outbound wire?

Non-USD wire sends are available Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM EST. Standard USD international wires can be initiated outside these hours, but any wire that requires currency conversion has to be booked during the window when Relay's wire partners can lock in an exchange rate.
