You can deposit a US business check into any Relay checking account from the Relay mobile app in under two minutes. It typically settles within seven business days.
What you need before you start
The Relay mobile app installed on iOS or Android
A US-issued paper check dated within the last six months
The check made payable to your Relay business name, a beneficial owner on file, or a registered DBA on your account
A flat, dark surface with even, steady lighting (no flash, no shadows, no glare)
How do I deposit a check on the Relay mobile app?
Nine steps from the Relay mobile app get the deposit submitted for processing.
Open the Relay mobile app on your iOS or Android device.
Tap Deposit Check in the main menu.
Select the Relay checking account you want to deposit the check into.
Enter the exact amount printed on the check.
Endorse the back of the check with your signature or business name, then write "For mobile deposit only at Thread Bank" underneath.
Take clear photos of the front and back of the check on a flat, dark surface. Keep your phone steady, avoid flash, and make sure all four corners are visible.
Enter the payer's name (the person or business that wrote the check).
Add a short memo if you want a reminder of what the deposit was for.
Tap Deposit to submit.
The deposit enters review immediately and shows up in your transactions list as pending.
How should I endorse the check?
Sign the back of the check with your signature or business name, then write "For mobile deposit only at Thread Bank" directly underneath the signature.
The Thread Bank endorsement line is required. Deposits submitted without it may be rejected during review. If the payee is a business, use the exact business name (or DBA) as it appears on the front of the check.
What checks can Relay accept for mobile deposit?
Relay accepts US-issued business checks that meet these conditions.
Accepted:
Issued by a US bank in US dollars
Dated within the last six months
Made payable to your Relay business name, a beneficial owner on file, or a registered DBA on your account
Endorsed with the payee's signature or business name plus "For mobile deposit only at Thread Bank"
Not accepted through mobile deposit:
Checks older than six months
Checks made out to a name that isn't on your Relay account
Checks authorized under Power of Attorney (POA)
Money orders
Non-US checks or checks written in a currency other than US dollars
When will the check deposit show up in my account?
Check deposits typically settle within seven business days of the processing date, with a same-day processing cutoff of 3:00 PM EST.
Deposits submitted after 3:00 PM EST or on weekends and bank holidays start processing on the next business day. The deposit appears as pending immediately, and Relay will notify you if additional verification is needed before the money settles.
What if I have Power of Attorney on someone else's check?
Relay cannot accept checks made out to a different name, even with Power of Attorney (POA). The check must be payable to your Relay business name, a beneficial owner on file, or a registered DBA on your account.
If the check should have been made out to your business, ask the payer to void it and reissue a corrected check with the right payee name.
Common issues and fixes
Deposit rejected for image quality. Retake the photos on a flat, dark surface with steady hands and even lighting. No flash. All four corners of the check must be visible in each photo.
Deposit rejected for endorsement. Every mobile deposit needs "For mobile deposit only at Thread Bank" written under the signature. Add the line and resubmit.
Deposit rejected for payee mismatch. The name on the check must match your Relay business name, a beneficial owner on file, or a registered DBA. If you use a DBA that isn't on your account yet, add it first, then resubmit.
Amount entered doesn't match the check. Enter the exact amount printed on the front. Even a rounding difference can trigger rejection.
Deposit hasn't settled after seven business days. Check your notifications for a verification request. If nothing is pending, contact Relay support.
