Relay automatically reissues most active physical cards about one month before they expire, keeping the same card number with a new expiration date and CVV.
When does Relay reissue my card?
About one month before your card's expiration date, provided the card is active and has been used in the past six months. Reissued cards keep the same number; only the expiration date and CVV change.
Which cards get reissued automatically?
Physical Relay Visa® Debit Cards that meet all three of these conditions:
The card is not frozen or terminated
The card has been activated at least once
The card has had activity in the past six months
Virtual cards are not automatically reissued. When a virtual card is about to expire, you'll get an in-app reminder to manually create a new one from your Relay dashboard.
When does Relay not reissue my card?
Automatic reissuance is skipped if any of these apply:
The card is frozen or terminated
The card was never activated
The card has had no activity in the past six months
In any of these cases, you can create a new card from your Relay dashboard whenever you're ready.
When does my old card stop working?
The card stays valid through the last day of its expiration month, at 11:59 PM. For example, a card marked 11/25 works through November 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM. After that, the old card no longer processes transactions.
How do I activate my new physical card?
Log in to your Relay dashboard and activate the new card from the Cards section. Once you activate the new card, the old card is automatically deactivated and stops working.
Do I need to activate my new virtual card?
No. Virtual cards are ready to use as soon as they appear in your account. There's no separate activation step for virtual cards.
How will I know my card is expiring?
Relay sends in-app alerts about one month before expiration for both physical and virtual cards. For physical cards, the new card also arrives in the mail. Email notifications aren't currently sent automatically at expiration; the reminder appears inside your Relay account.
