What to Do if Your Relay Visa® Credit Card Auto-Payment Fails

UpdatedAugust 11, 2026

If your Relay Visa® Credit Card auto-payment fails, you have 5 days to make a manual payment for the full outstanding balance before late fees and penalties apply.

Relay attempts to settle your Relay Visa® Credit Card balance from your designated primary payment account at the end of each 30-day billing cycle. If that attempt fails, the balance moves into a 5-day grace period, during which you can pay from any Relay checking account or a connected external bank account.

Why did my Relay Visa® Credit Card auto-payment fail?

The most common reason is insufficient funds in the designated primary payment account at the time the payment ran. Other causes include a frozen or closed primary payment account, or a temporary hold on the account balance.

Check your primary payment account balance and any recent activity in the Relay app to confirm which cause applies before making the manual payment.

How long do I have to pay before late fees apply?

You have 5 days from the failed auto-payment to make a manual payment for the full outstanding balance. Late fees and penalties are applied after the 5-day grace period ends.

Partial payments do not extend the grace period. The full statement balance must clear inside the 5 days to avoid late fees.

How do I make a manual credit card payment?

Follow these steps in the Relay app or web dashboard:

  1. Open the Relay app, or log in to your Relay account at app.relayfi.com

  2. Go to the Credit tab and select your Relay Visa® Credit Card

  3. Select Pay balance

  4. Choose the account you want to pay from (any Relay checking account or a connected external bank account)

  5. Enter the full outstanding balance

  6. Review and confirm the payment

If the account you want to pay from does not have enough money, transfer money into it first, then return to the Credit tab and complete the payment.

Can I pay my credit card balance from any Relay account?

Yes. You can pay your Relay Visa® Credit Card balance from any Relay checking account or a connected external bank account. You are not limited to the account designated as your primary or backup.

How long does a manual credit card payment take to process?

Payments from a Relay checking account apply immediately, and your outstanding balance updates in real time. Payments from a connected external bank account take up to 3 business days to settle.

If you are close to the end of the 5-day grace period, pay from a Relay checking account so the payment posts on time.

Will a failed auto-payment hurt my credit score?

Your personal credit score is not impacted by a failed Relay Visa® Credit Card auto-payment. A prolonged missed payment may be reported to commercial credit bureaus and could affect your business credit profile.

Making a manual payment inside the 5-day grace period prevents both late fees and any negative reporting to commercial credit bureaus.
